NEW Duo Alarm System gives even more protection for staff and patients

The Door Top Alarm (DTA) has been revolutionising patient safety in the mental health sector for over a decade, and now the team behind the technology has launched an alarm for the bottom of the door.

Intastop, a leading provider of solutions to the mental health sector designed to offer the highest levels of people protection, has utilised its patented technology to reduce ligature opportunities presented at the bottom of internal doors. A complementing product to the renowned Intastop DTA, the new Duo Alarm System for doors will enhance patient and staff safety whilst enabling staff to attend and respond immediately to attempted suicides and emergency situations on either the top or bottom of the door.

“We work closely with mental health care providers to ascertain issues that present themselves and look at ways in which products can be developed to reduce those issue in care facilities,” said Phil Barsby, Business Development Manager, Intastop. “It was apparent that ligature opportunities are possible at the bottom of doors and, with that in mind, the new Duo Alarm System was designed to alert staff should such a situation occur.”

The programmable alarm is activated by movement or pressure to both the bottom or top the door and the tamper proof system is compatible with staff attack systems. Power transfer to the door is via Intastop’s Electronic Transfer Hinge which ensures all cables and wires are safely concealed.

“This is another addition to our comprehensive range of anti-ligature and patient safety products specifically designed for the mental health sector and which reduces a further opportunity for self-harm,” said Phil. “In addition, it offers excellent safety credentials and performance testing, giving specifiers and facilities managers complete peace of mind in the quality of the product too.”

Tested to 250,000 cycles for the alarm and for the electrical transfer hinge in compliance with CE EN1935:2002, the Duo Alarm System can be fitted to newly installed doors or existing ones. For peace of mind Intastop also offers a commissioning and planned preventative maintenance service.

Phil concluded; “As mental health services become more in demand, we are proud to be working alongside those that provide and manage both out and in-patient facilities to ensure they are fit for purpose and have safety as a prime consideration.”
