The Project
The upgrade of wards 6 & 7 corridor at Fairfield Hospital, required a handrail system that would not only deliver durability and infection control in a demanding mental health environment but also provide enhanced visibility to support patient orientation, particularly during night-time hours. Creating a calmer and safer environment for patients while ensuring staff could work efficiently was a key priority.
The Challenge
Compliance with NHS standards and infection prevention protocols was critical, alongside the ability to meet tight timescales and adapt to the operational pressures of a busy healthcare setting. However, the existing wall structure could not support a direct handrail installation, requiring a pattress for secure fixing. This added complexity demanded a solution that maintained both safety and a professional finish while minimising disruption to the live ward environment.
The Solution
Intastop provided the new 1000LED Handrail system, combining robust build quality with integrated LED lighting to improve corridor visibility and aid patient orientation at night, particularly valuable in mental health and dementia care settings. Their team managed the full installation, ensuring safety, compliance, and a professional finish.
