Intastop is proud to have supplied its advanced door and wall protection products to the UK’s first NHS National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC), a state-of-the-art 70-bed facility in Nottingham designed to transform recovery for people who have experienced life-changing illness or injury.

The vision for the NRC was created by the late 6th Duke of Westminster, Gerald Grosvenor, and supported by the Black Stork Charity, which raised over £300 million to bring the concept to life. The £105 million centre, delivered through the government’s New Hospitals Programme, is located on the same site as the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Stanford Hall, marking a new era in rehabilitation.

A New Standard in Rehabilitation

The NRC is the first operationally carbon-neutral NHS building, incorporating solar panels and air-source heat pumps to deliver a sustainable model for healthcare design. Its treatment philosophy focuses on early, specialist rehabilitation supported by partnerships with universities and clinical experts across England.

Patients benefit from earlier access to therapy and bespoke treatment plans, supported by state-of-the-art technology including the most comprehensive robotics suite in the NHS. The 365-acre estate also features outdoor recovery spaces, a trim trail, hand-cycle track, fishing lake, and golf course, all designed to support physical and psychological wellbeing.

Intastop’s Contribution

Valued at approximately £346,000, Intastop’s contribution included the supply and installation of over 200 IPC Pewter Grey bedhead protectors, nearly 2,000 wall protection sheets across a range of styles including hygienic, standard PVC and Stainless Steel, and more than 200 corner guards across three levels of the centre.

This extensive programme of work was expertly delivered by Intastop’s installation team, whose skill and commitment helped ensure the highest quality finish throughout.

Intastop’s door and wall protection systems are an essential component of the building’s infrastructure, protecting high-traffic areas from impact damage, reducing ongoing maintenance requirements, and supporting infection control through easy-clean, hygienic surfaces. Their inclusion helps ensure the facility remains safe, durable, and fit for purpose for years to come.

“We’re incredibly proud that Intastop products form part of this pioneering facility,” said Steve Todd, National Sales Manager at Intastop. “The NRC sets a new benchmark in patient rehabilitation and sustainable healthcare design, and it’s a privilege to see our protection systems playing a role in safeguarding its spaces for many years to come.”
