The Project
Elmwood Ward at Parklands Hospital in Basingstoke required an upgrade to its existing handrail system to enhance patient safety. The project, delivered for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, focused on replacing outdated wooden rails with a safer and clinically hygienic solution.
The Challenge
The ward is a live mental health environment, meaning works had to be carefully managed to avoid disruption to patients and staff. The existing wooden rails were old and difficult to clean and also could pose a potential ligature risk and infection control concern, making their replacement a priority.
The Solution
Intastop supplied and installed its IPC 1000 BH Anti-Ligature Handrail, a robust and hygienic alternative designed specifically to reduce ligature risks while supporting infection prevention. The installation team worked closely with ward staff, ensuring minimal disruption by coordinating around protected mealtimes and maintaining excellent communication throughout the project.
